Jonathan Glassner stated that they had awed by Jessica's skills during her first training lesson. The Outpost is her first significant film in the US because her earlier films were filmed in Australia. Jessica is able to fully play the role of a strong woman due to her enthusiasm for combat, mixed martial arts abilities as well as her horse riding, guns and weapon skills in addition to her athletic abilities. Jessica trained in mixed boxing, martial arts, as well as muay Thai in an Australian gym. Jake Stormoen, who was working on Season 4 of the show and was in the process of meeting a dog who was wandering around the set. The stray dogs had occupied the entire set.
